The IKCC Board of Directors has announced upcoming executive leadership changes.
After serving as a Board member since 2017 and Chair of IKCC’s Medical Advisory Board (MAB) for the past two years, Dr Eric Jonasch (US) has accepted the role of Board Chair of IKCC’s Board of Directors. As of 1 April 2025, he will assume the role of Chair-Elect and will move into the role officially on 1 November. At that time, current IKCC Board Chair Dr Michael Jewett will move into the position of Immediate Past Chair.
Dr Eric Jonasch is a distinguished Medical Oncologist with over 20 years of experience treating people with kidney cancer and von Hippel-Lindau disease. Working with the IKCC Board and MAB over the past nine years, Eric has been a champion of evidence-based activities and advocacy. He has been involved in IKCC’s Clinical Leadership Development Program and advocates for clinicians’ involvement in patient engagement. He has also been instrumental in expanding MAB membership globally to help ensure its perspectives and experiences reflect the global community we support.
As Eric moves into his new role, Prof. Stênio de Cássio Zequi (BR) will take on the position of Chair of the IKCC Medical Advisory Board and as MAB Chair will join the IKCC Board of Directors. Stênio has been a member of the MAB since 2019 and an executive member since 2023. Stênio is one of the leading voices on the importance of healthcare professionals participating in patient advocacy in Latin America and founder of the Latin America Renal Cancer Group (LARCG) in 2013.
Finally, Claudia Ungarelli (IT) will be moving into the role of Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors. As of 1 April 2025, she will assume the role of Vice-Chair-Elect and will move into the role officially on 1 November. Claudia first joined the IKCC Board in 2023. The combination of her professional experience as an advocacy and lobbying specialist coupled with her personal experience as a caregiver to her father and grandfather who were both diagnosed with kidney cancer, brings a unique and valuable perspective to the organisation. Thank you to Bryan Lewis (US) for everything he has done for IKCC while serving as Vice-Chair since 2020.
This is an exciting time at IKCC with three inspiring individuals stepping up to energise and lead the organisation into the future. Congratulations to Eric, Stênio and Claudia on their new roles.
