Michael A.S. Jewett, MD, FRCSC, FACS, CM

Dr Michael Jewett is a Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the University of Toronto and a selectively retired Uro-Oncologist, with a 49-year long career at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada. He is renowned for his work in both clinical and academic settings, having served as the Head of Urology at the University Health Network (Toronto) and the Chair of Urology at the University of Toronto. Dr Jewett has also contributed significantly to global cancer care, holding prominent positions on various national and international boards.

Throughout his career, Dr Jewett has demonstrated unwavering leadership in cancer advocacy. He served as a past board member for the Canadian Cancer Society and a biotech board, while also leading the U.S. National Cancer Institute’s GU Steering Committee Renal Task Force. His advocacy efforts include over three decades of support for Prostate Cancer Canada, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), Bladder Cancer Canada and Kidney Cancer Canada, where he established the Kidney Cancer Research Network of Canada. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Order of Canada in 2020.

Dr Jewett is passionate about serving on the IKCC Board, drawing from his experience as a global academic surgeon. His travels and surgical work across the world exposed him to the inequities and disparities in healthcare, and he believes that increased patient engagement from clinicians will drive better outcomes and reduced costs. He is committed to using evidence-based approaches to advocate for equitable healthcare and improved cancer care outcomes worldwide.
