A new smartphone app can be used in home, clinical, or resource-limited settings to read commercially available urine test strips without requiring any external hardware. These urine test strips can be used to measure glucose, protein, or pH in the urine. While the test strips are inexpensive, they can be difficult to read accurately without expensive equipment. The smartphone app, Colorimetrix, makes accurate readings of these tests much easier using only a mobile phone. After testing urine, saliva or other bodily fluids the user simply takes a picture of the test strip with their phone’s camera. The app analyzes the colours of the test and displays a numeric result on the phone’s screen.
