Advocacy
Improving access to treatment and care for all people with kidney cancer.
Since its inception, IKCC has been committed to activating advocacy globally and locally. We are focused on strengthening patient engagement and improving access to treatment and care for all people with kidney cancer.
Flip the Classroom: Clinical Leadership Development Program
Engaging with patients is a potential blockbuster treatment that healthcare professionals should subscribe to in their practice to improve outcomes. As such, IKCC continues to support clinician-patient engagement through its Clinical Leadership Development Program, where the classroom is “flipped” and clinicians learn from patient advocates.
The overarching program goal is to foster a better understanding of clinicians’ role in supporting patient advocacy and accelerating patient engagement in cancer care, with a focus on kidney cancer. Through a series of expert presentations and group discussions, attendees learn about the role of patient organisations and advocacy across the research cycle, the role of patient decision aids to support shared decision-making, and the value of patient voice in the development of evidence-based practice guidelines.
In addition to their personal learning, the educational program aims to equip attendees with the leadership skills needed to mentor their trainees and colleagues on the benefits of patient engagement and encourage more engagement with regional patient advocacy groups.
Since the program launched in 2022, more than 50 clinicians have participated in the training program.
Access to Treatment Infographics
IKCC creates easy-to-understand visual infographics outlining the findings of newly published data about kidney cancer and treatments. These resources can help patients understand the research and be more active participants in their care. The infographics can also be included in advocacy activities to improve access to kidney cancer treatments.
Partner Organisations, as well as other interested organisations and medical professionals, are invited to use these infographics (with permission) provided IKCC is cited as the source.
